Seismic and Geodetic Crustal Moment-Rates Comparison: New Insights on the Seismic Hazard of Egypt

چکیده

A comparative analysis of geodetic versus seismic moment-rate estimations makes it possible to distinguish between and aseismic deformation, define the style also reveal potential gaps. This has been performed for Egypt where present-day tectonics seismicity result from long-lasting interaction Nubian, Eurasian, Arabian plates. The data used comprises all available geological tectonic information, an updated Poissonian earthquake catalog (2200 B.C.–2020 A.D.) including historical instrumental datasets, a focal-mechanism solutions (1951–2019), crustal strains Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data. studied region was divided into ten (EG-01 EG-10) sources based mainly on seismicity, focal mechanisms, strain characteristics. delimited cover Gulf Aqaba–Dead Sea Transform Fault system, Suez–Red Rift, besides some active regions along Nile River its delta. For each source, estimation moment-rates performed. Although obtained results cannot be considered definitive, among sources, four them (EG-05, EG-06, EG-08, are characterized by low seismic-geodetic ratios (<20%), reflecting prevailing behavior. Intermediate (from 20% 60%) have in additional zones (EG-01, EG-04, EG-07, EG-09), evidencing how accounts minor moderate fraction total deformational budget. In other two (EG-02 EG-03), high (>60%) observed, fully deformation.

the rationale behind the present study is that particular learning strategies produce more effective results when applied together. the present study tried to investigate the efficiency of the semantic-context strategy alone with a technique called, keyword method. to clarify the point, the current study seeked to find answer to the following question: are the keyword and semantic-context metho...

determination and regionalization of geodetic seismic moment rates, case study: national geodynamic network of iran

a new and significant source of information on earthquake studies has been provided by space geodesy. the data which are gathered by various techniques of space geodesy, can quantify potential of seismic activity in the region of interest. to achieve this goal, the main advantage of extra-terrestrial geodetic data in comparison with the conventional data from geology and seismology is the abili...

Capturing the Uncertainty of Seismic Activity Rates in Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessments

A new two-step approach is proposed to quantify the uncertainties of the seismicity rate ν(M) estimated by Gutenberg-Richter relations of seismic area source zones in logic tree-driven probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. The first step makes use of the possibility that the uncertainties of the Gutenberg-Richter parameters α and β (or a and b), expressed by their covariance matrix C(α, β) (or...

Slow deformation and lower seismic hazard at the new madrid seismic zone

Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements across the New Madrid seismic zone (NMSZ) in the central United States show little, if any, motion. These data are consistent with platewide continuous GPS data away from the NMSZ, which show no motion within uncertainties. Both these data and the frequency-magnitude relation for seismicity imply that had the largest shocks in the series of earthquak...
